Being a mommy on the go, I often don’t have time to sit down for a meal. So instead of reaching for something incredibly unhealthy I opt for my favorite smoothie, The Green Machine. This bad boy is packed with fruits, vegetables and protein. It’s the perfect pick me up for those not so calm days.
All you need is:
Handful of spinach and/or kale
1/4 of a ripe medium avocado
1/2 c freshly cut pineapple (frozen works well too)
1/2 medium green apple
1/2 ripe medium banana
1 scoop protein powder (optional)
1 c vanilla almond milk OR water
Combine all ingredients along with ice in blender, and mix well. I absolutely love this smoothie! The avocado gives it a nice creamy texture and the pineapple provides just enough sweetness. You can omit the protein if you’d like, but I add it in to keep me full on those long days. I personally like to enjoy the nutty almond milk, but have made it with water instead- and it’s just as delicious.
In fact, it’s so tasty my son can’t keep his hands off of it! When he’s around I’ll double the recipe and we enjoy the green goodness together. I love that he’s so open to trying new things. Most kids won’t touch anything green- but not this boy! It’s satisfying to know that this snack is both yummy and healthy for the entire family.
Although it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, in the past I have made pre-assembled ingredient bags to expedite the process. Just add liquid and go! Perfect for early mornings. Stayed tuned for more satisfying smoothie recipes, they are after all a staple in this family!
