A few weeks ago, another mom and I were joking about the lack of cleanliness in our homes. Not that we neglect cleaning, it’s quite the opposite in fact. I guess what I’m trying to say is that we have kids! Of course I cannot put all the blame on them, but let’s be honest… kids are messy!
If I’m not wiping up spilled yogurt, or sweeping up piles of Cheerios, you can find me picking up random toys dispersed throughout my entire house. When we moved to Guam, we down sized big time! Five-thousand square feet to be exact. Which is totally ok, it just means that we needed to get creative with our storage methods.
For starters, all of the kids’ toys were moved from our living room into their bedrooms. I wasn’t completely on board with this decision at first, but after a few weeks we made it work. We started by purging toys that we never used. This was an interesting process, as I’am sure you can imagine. But in the long run, it was a win-win for everyone!
My 8-year-old adjusted like a champ, the little one on the other hand, was a bit more challenging. What we did to make this new change work was to create a space for her to grow and explore independently. We obviously participate in activities together, but this space also allows her to be in control of her own play. That is why we chose to include Lamaze Toys, the leaders in encouraging daily discoveries through independent and shared play.
When it comes to reading, hubby and I usually take turns reading her a bedtime story. But the older Kenzie gets, the more she wants to read on her own. Which is why I included a variety of age appropriate books, like the Lamaze Counting Animals Book. Through this interactive soft book, she’s able to identify different animals and practice counting. With the help of her big brother, she’s coming along extremely well!
Kenzie loves playing with open ended toys, where exploring is endless. Which is why she loves playing with Lamaze Octotunes. Each tentacle plays a different musical note allowing her to come up with her own rhythms. Our favorite song to play together is definitely twinkle twinkle little star. With this ultra soft character, she’s able to carry him around and play with him in her room, the kitchen, and even during snack time.

When assembling this play center, I wanted a variety of toys to meet all of her developmental needs. Toys that make sound, inspire imagination, and encourage fine and gross motor skills. While I’d say she has these skills down pat, the Lamaze Stacking Starseeker encompasses all of those characteristics in one. She’s able to crinkle the toy, build, stack and of course, launch the spaceship. The bold bright colors keep her engaged, while the different textures stimulate her different senses.
My whole objective when creating this space for my daughter was to stimulate independence, imaginative learning and character building. This space is all hers, and she’s proud of it! Every day she puts the toys in the appropriate spots and ensures her space is clean for next time. Her room is no longer full of clutter, she plays well with and without others, and it encourages her growth. Which as a mom, is a bittersweet feeling. As much as I want her to stay little and need me, it makes me so incredibly happy to see her discover new things through her every millstone.
While these are only a few of Kenzie’s favorites, Lamaze Toys has many more toys to encourage parent and baby play, as well as healthy independent play.
And of course a huge thank you, because none if this would have been possible without the help from my friends at Lamaze Toys who have generously provided you with a fantastic discount code no one could resist!
