What an exhausting week, and it’s only Thursday! On top of moving, like that isn’t stressful enough, both kids and I have strep throat! Talk about a tired mama, I’m pretty sure I permanently have bags under my eyes. On the flip side, being sick sometimes has its perks, like an excuse to lay in bed. So for the past three days, I’ve had nothing but time to research anything and everything about traveling with kids.
While I do have some experience of my own, this will mark my first time flying internationally with two kids. With an 18 hour plus flight ahead of me, I need all the help I can get! So what do you do when you’re looking for advice or ideas, you turn to Pinterest! My board is overflowing with ideas, I’ve pinned everything from things to pack, to must have products.
So far we have plenty of snacks and entertainment, and of course George. Since it’s such a long flight I want my kids to be as comfortable as possible. Well duh Lesley, what mother wouldn’t!? So, I’ve made each of them their own No Sew Travel Pillow. This pillow is small enough to fit in a carry on, yet cozy enough to snuggle up with. Wait, it gets better. There’s even a spot for their favorite bedtime book!
Currently, we’re head over heels for Mackenzie’s Sing Along Book by I See Me! Personalized Children’s Books. It has made reading fun, while teaching her to recognize her own name. During this difficult move, it has allowed both kids and myself to relax and simply enjoy
reading singing as a family.
And a HUGE thank you to my friends over at I See Me! because they’re giving away one Personalized Children’s Book to one lucky reader! Hurry, this offer won’t last long!
I originally wanted to take pictures of the entire process, but I got way too excited and forgot. But no worries, because I took way too many of the aftermath. I mean how could I not, especially with my little snuggle bug involved.
I am not an expert when it comes to no sew projects, but if I can do it, so can you!
All you need is:
2 different patterns of fabric ( 1 yard each)
5/8″ Light Stitch Witchery Iron On Adhesive
First, you’ll want to determine what size pillow you will be using. In my case, I picked a 16 x 16 pillow. Regardless what size pillow you choose, always add 2 inches, to account for the no sew adhesive. So, in my circumstance my solid pattern was cut at 18 x 18.
Next, you’ll want to cut the remaining pieces of fabric. The solid piece will measure 18 x 9 and the pattern piece will measure at 18 x 15.
First you want to start by “hemming” the top piece of your patterned fabric. Why only the top? Because the remaining 3 sides will be fused to the other fabric. Continue this step with your 18 x 9 piece.
Now, you’re going to adhere both solid pieces together using the no sew iron on adhesive. Place both pieces on top of one another, making sure the faces are touching. Adhere together according to package instructions. It should now look like this. Then, take the pattern piece of fabric (also face down) and adhere like before.
Before flipping inside out, run fingers along the perimeter and make sure everything is closed correctly. Allow to dry overnight. Once completely dry, flip inside out and gently place pillow inside out.
The kids are so excited to use their pillows on the plane. Wish us luck as we officially start our new adventure!
