It is officially the new year, my friends! While 2016 was a very exciting year for me, I cannot wait to see what 2017 will bring. This year, I’ve decided to approach things a little bit differently. Instead of making a new years resolution, that I probably wouldn’t keep, I’ve decided to make small changes to focus on throughout the year.
Let’s be honest, life is rough, and being a mom isn’t an easy task. In fact, with everything we balance it’s easy to sometimes fall off track. But if we focus on small, realistic goals, it is possible to maintain a healthy, happy lifestyle.
Make Time For You: This is at the top of my list because it tends to be something I have a difficult time with. With a husband, two kids and an upcoming move I find it challenging to put my needs first. But in order to take care of others, you must first take care of yourself. Whether it’s a 10 minute solo walk or a relaxing bubble bath, allowing yourself to recharge is essential.
Be Active: Surprisingly, this was a challenge for me last year. I viewed being active has an hour long gym session out of the house, when in reality, it’s as simple as going for a walk. One day, I hope to have the motivation to spend quality time at the gym. But until then, I plan on playing at the park, practicing yoga, or going for an evening stroll.
Being active for 30 minutes a day is beneficial to your overall health, helps regulate mood, and contributes to one’s energy levels.
Eat Breakfast: I know it sounds so simple, but when your rushed in the morning, breakfast can often be forgotten. With these easy make ahead- Orange Cranberry Almond Muffins, there is no excuse to skip the most important meal of the day. Especially when you combine muffin batter with Post® Great Grains® Cranberry Almond Crunch. This is a match I wish I had thought of earlier!
Thanks to this yummy cereal, these muffins are packed with 36 grams of whole grains per serving. Say goodbye to those mid-morning cravings, with 20% of your daily value of fiber, you’ll stay fuller longer!
Drink More Water: I will be the first to admit that I do not drink enough water. In fact, I’m pretty sure I drink more coffee than water on a daily basis. A trick that has helped me in the past is to infuse my water with yummy fruits. Adding a little bit of flavor makes it a lot easier to consume those 8 glasses a day.
Plus, increasing your daily water intake will flush out toxins, provide energy, and promote healthy skin.
Unplug: This is a lot easier said than done, but it’s definitely something I want to focus on this year. I too often find myself consumed by my cell phone staring at the perfect pinterest kitchen, or the perfectly put together Instagram mom. When in reality, nothing is perfect, nor should I convince myself it is.
So, instead of swooning over social media accounts, put the electronics in another room and enjoy what’s right in front of you.
From my family to yours, have a happy and healthy 2017!
